RETAILMENOT: THE BROWSER EXTENSION MOMENT THAT TURNS VISITORS INTO LOYALISTS
Redesigning RetailMeNot's browser extension from the ground up.
Year :
2025
Industry :
Shopping
Client :
RetailMeNot
Project Duration :
6 Weeks

Problem :
MY ROLE • Lead Product Designer
Product design, user research, product strategy, stakeholder alignment, information architecture, user flows, visual design, interaction design, copywriting, quality assurance, design guidelines.
Friction was limiting adoption and effectiveness. Baseline user testing revealed systemic issues across branding, viewport size, feature clarity, and flow — the extension wasn't converting new users or delivering enough value to keep them engaged.

Solution :
RetailMeNot's browser extension had the reach — but the experience wasn't converting or keeping users. I focused on the critical acquisition and retention touchpoints, identifying where trust broke down and motivation faded. The result was a sharper, more rewarding extension experience that gave users a reason to install, and a reason to stay.

Challenge :
Overhauling a live, widely-used extension without losing what worked — while aligning leadership on a bold directional shift, challenging entrenched industry patterns, and validating every decision through real user testing.
Summary :
A redesign anchored around a persistent, user-controlled Floating Action Button (FAB) that kept value visible without interrupting the shopping experience. Testing validated a rounded-square FAB in vibrant purple with a glass effect, and overturned the industry default of top-right placement: 80% of users preferred bottom-left, reducing interference with key shopping actions. A focused reduction exercise stripped the viewport down to only the most critical information, resulting in streamlined concepts now in live A/B/C testing.
